Summary
The aim of the submitted project will be to design a complete solution for an automatic object detection device.
The main structural element of the device will be an interconnected system of image sensors and evaluation units for obtaining dynamic data. The proposed system will mainly deal with the detection and evaluation of foreign objects in the monitored area of interest.
This is a system for detecting falls of people onto the track in train stations or metro stations. The system aims to evaluate the track area based on live camera images and detect whether a person or other obstacle is present there. The system will autonomously and immediately trigger a warning in the event of detection. The system will transmit information about the detected person to a superior element of the railway system, which can, for example, turn off the electricity in the given track.
The project will be solved within four research phases, in which individual project teams will participate, whose activities will follow each other:
1. Project solution phase - testing suitable components of the developed system
2. Project solution phase - development incl. design of the software algorithm of the automatic system
3rd phase of the solution - functional testing of the proposed solution
4th phase of the project solution - economic evaluation of the proposed system, research of application potential
The research teams of students and academic staff and their involvement in the individual stages of the project solution are described in the appendix.
The subject of research within the project is conceived on the basis of the high topicality of the given solution and a certain existing market gap in this area and is fully in line with the main themes of the Strategic Plan of FMT VŠB-TUO for the period 2021-2027, especially in the following research areas:
Control of modern industrial systems:
• Artificial intelligence methods in the field of production control
• Diagnostics and sensors of industrial processes
• Information systems and modeling for environmental protection in industry
• Advanced approaches and tools for managing the sustainable performance of industrial systems
The outputs of the proposed project are of considerable importance for the selected goal of the National Priorities of Oriented Research, Experimental Development and Innovation. The project reflects the challenges of today, when the frequency of accidents related to people falling into the tracks is constantly increasing. Since the current system relies on the reaction of other bystanders, while the output of the proposed project will be able to react autonomously, and therefore without the intervention of another person. There will therefore be a drastic improvement in the existing system and safety in the operation of rail transport.
The proposed project is multidisciplinary in nature with research focused on the topics of digitalization, economics, IT sustainability using the principles of the circular economy, innovation management and corporate social responsibility.
