The Surface Engineering Laboratory is equipped with equipment for both the assessment of the nature of surfaces and their controlled physical or physico-chemical treatment.
Instruments:
- The Elcometer 107 set - grid test kit is a destructive adhesion measurement test for both thin and thick coatings. Tests are performed according to ASTM D387, ASTM D332, ISO 8780-5, ISO 787/16, NFT 30 023, ISO 2409.
- Elcometer 456 Set - Digital thickness gauge for determining the thickness of surface layers on magnetic and non-magnetic materials. Tests are performed in accordance with AS 2331.1.4, AS 3894.3-B, AS/NZS 1580.108.1, ASTM B 499, ASTM D 1186-B, ASTM D 1400, ASTM D 7091, ATSM E 376, ATSM G 12, BS 3900-C5-6B, BS 3900-C5-6A, BS 5411-11, BS 5411-3, BS 5599, DIN 50981, DIN 50984, ECCA T1, EN 13523-1, IMO MSC.215(82), IMO MSC.244(83), ISO 1461, ISO 19840, ISO 2063, ISO 2360, ISO 2808-6A, ISO 2808-6B, ISO 2808-7C, ISO 2808-7D, ISO 2808-12, NF T30-124, SS 184159, SSPC PA2, US Navy PPI 63101-000, US Navy NSI 009-32.
- Comtest OP (Coming Plus) Tensile Tester - The instrument is designed to measure the tensile strength perpendicular to the surface. It is used to check the quality of the substrate (determination of the cohesive strength) and to determine the quality of the surface treatment (adhesion strength of two and multi-layer coating systems) or to determine the mutual adhesion of the individual coats applied. Measurements are carried out in accordance with e.g. ČSN EN 431, ČSN EN 13596, ČSN 73 2577, ČSN 73 1344.
- Taylor Hobson Talysurf 50 profilometer - Low noise, high resolution measuring instrument for simultaneous measurement of shape, roughness and surface profile with a maximum measurement length of 50 mm.
- Advex SEE System - The SEE System is a portable instrument for contact angle measurement and surface energy determination. It can also be used to determine the self-cleaning ability of photocatalytic materials, such as titanium dioxide-containing materials, according to ISO 27448:2009.
- Potentiostat Voltalab PGZ 201 - Potentiostat and galvanostat enabling also the EIS method to perform a range of electrochemical measurements, e.g. corrosion tests, fuel cell studies, determination of battery capacity, determination of hydrogen permeation through the material, etc.
