The texture analysis laboratory is used to measure the texture of both compact and powder materials. These relevant parameters include: low- and high-pressure Hg porosity, volume intrusion, pore size and tortuosity (mercury porosimetry, Autopore 9500, Micromeritics), measurement of specific surface area - BET analysis, pore size and pore distribution (micro-, meso- and macropores) (Micro 200, 3P Instruments and Sorptomatic 1990, ThermoFinnigan), determination of material density (helium pyknometry on Pycnomatic ATC Porotec) including water vapor sorption analysis (water vapor sorption analyzer, DVS Advantage 1).
For mercury porosimetry, it is necessary to use compact samples, usually of dimensions 10x10x10 mm or 20x10x10 mm, from 0.15 to 5 g. For specific surface area measurements, a sample weight of 0.35 to 1 g is required with a density of approx. 5-10 g. A weight of about 5-10 mg is needed to analyse water vapour sorption.
Equipment:
- Mercury porosimetry: Autopore 9500, Micromeritic
- BET analysis: Micro 200, 3P Instruments and Sorptomatic 1990, ThermoFinnigan
- He pyknometry density: Pycnomatic ATC Porotec
- Water vapor sorption analyzer (DVS): DVS Advantage 1
